In many countries around the world, international junk food is substituting for traditional foods. Some individuals are of the opinion that citizens should consume traditional foods. In contrast, others think that fast food is a superior option. Although both schools of thought offer merit, I agree more with the idea that final decisions should be based on the actual needs of each person.
On the one hand, there are some major rationales that explain why some people believe that time-honored products should receive better consideration. In daily lives, when some people catch sight of their friends eating any kinds of traditional foods, that could augment the desirability of finding out more about them or experiencing them as a way to reminisce about their childhood. Besides, the image promotion to worldwide residents would make them impressed and cause them to eat conventional food when traveling to these countries. Thus, the presence of traditional products could last longer, preserving their precious values as obvious evidence of the countries’ history. For instance, the word Pho, referring to the time-honored food representative of Vietnam, was included in the Oxford Dictionary in recognition of Vietnamese food.
On the other hand, opponents of the previous view claim that fast food has the potential to be more appropriate choice. In the process of producing fast foods, producers use flavorings such as sugar, spicy salt, etc., and takeaways also have a tendency to be cooked with a high amount of oil, which generates an addictive taste for consumers that traditional products lack due to various fixed conditions. Additionally, because fast foods are possible to be made and prepared rapidly, in this cutting-edge industry, many workers who have knocked off late and night owls would prefer to opt for them, especially the youth, who gradually make up the largest part of our population. To illustrate, aiming at young people who have always prioritized convenience, well-known multinational firms like Acecook released new, different types of instant noodles based on trends, typically the kimchi flavor.
In conclusion, although there are mixed opinions on determining the type of foods to consume, I believe that the ultimate decision needs to be made according to the specific demands of consumers.
