In many countries students have to pay high tution fees to get a university degree. But not everyone can afford that. Some people believe that university education should be free for everyone. However, I believe universities should require fees as well as offering some scholarships, so that students who cannot afford tuition price can get a degree.
On one hand, education fees play an important role in budgeting universities. Universities take money from their budget in order to provide modern classrooms, technical supplies like TV or electronic desks, and most importantly, to keep professors with high salary. And students’ payments are still remain as the main source of university budget. It is true that many governments have been funding public universities, but not privite universities.
On the other hand, it is not fair for one group of people, who earn more and can afford education, while there might be other talanted students with high potential but little money. In this case, universities offering scholarships seems to be a good solution. Many top universities have merit-based and need-based scholarships where they choose students for their talant and background. For example, I won merit-based scholarship and graduated country’s one of the expensive university.
In conclusion, even though some people think that it is better to make universities available for everyone, I think offering scholarships is an opportunity for those who cannot afford tuition fee.
