Some nations are taking implemented curfews into accounts to not enable teenagers to go out at night unless they are supervised by an adult. I agree with this perspective despite acknowledging its several drawbacks.
It is argued that curfews should not be imposed for several reasons. One of the most significant demerits is that curfews can give rise to teenagers resentment. To put it another way, teenagers are at the ages when they want to demonstrate themselves and want to be an adult, that is why they do not like being controlled. Therefore, if children are supervised, they might agressively disobey and secretly hang out without attention of their caregivers, leading to counter-productive results. Another disadvantage is that excessively supervising children may affect their personal development. This could be because teenagers should have to promote their soft skills, such as problem-solving skill, as well as learning how to take responsibility and independence.
My stance is that introducing curfews plays a pivotal role in ensuring the children’s safety. At the ages under 18, teenagers are not mature enough to deal with all hazardous situations by themselves. A prime example is that, teen-targeting crimes are rising, criminals tend to vilolate laws at midnight to avoid being focused by other people, so children may face difficulties when hanging out alone. Beyond that, teenagers lack threat-recognition and self-defence skills, they cannot imagine fully what will happen, thereby falling into criminals’ trap is irrefutable.
In conclusion, although imposing curfews bring several disadvantages, I am convinced that its advantages are far more significant. Therefore, authorities should consider to introduce curfews to ensure teenagers’ safety.
