These days, schools in some countries receive money aiming to advertise products from junk-food stores and supermarkets. From my point of view, i totally believe that this statement is a negative development for several reasons which will be discussed in this essay.
One of the main reasons is that fast-food is not good for children`s health. To explain, it contains high calories, sodium and added sugar levels which can lead to numerous chronic diseases in childhood. Obesity, for example, is the most popular illness in students today. As it is, children today have sedetry lifestyles, which makes it imperative that healthier food options should be made available them.
Another important reason is that schools should provide the best meals for all pupils. If school foods are dominated by sponsoring products from restaurants or supermarkets, schools cannot select food items by themselves. As a result, it may decrease the overall quality of lunch for students. Such commercial intrusions within academic environment can promote consumerism. For instance, if schools promote advertisements of any products like toys or computer games from supermarkets through educational materials, billboards, children would think that they have the approval of teachers and school authorities. Consequently, children demand their parents to buy those products, which can upset the family budget.
On the other hand, the management members of some educational institutions claim that, funds obtained from these fast food and store chains are helping them. these funds are considerable help to extra curricular activity like, sports.
To sum up, it is definitely a negative development to use schools to advertise their products as this may lead to unhealthy eating and materialistic attitude in children.
