In some countries, schools are getting money from fast-food chains and supermarkets for promoting their products. In my opinion, it is highly negative development because both schools and promoters are just caring about filling their pockets, and advertising unhealthy products that can cause damage to children.
To begin with, it is crystal clear that the popularity of fast-food restaurants has risen a lot, especially in new generations. The main reason behind this rising trend is the success in advertisement methods of fast-food chains, but it has too many bad effects on people’s health. Due to high amounts of fat, salt, and poor nutrients, fast-food meals can cause problems like heart attack, obesity, etc. When it comes to supermarkets, they are mostly advertising sugary products in schools because their target group is in the age period in which they are interested in sweets, candies, etc, but this can cause the same problems as fast food. Because of high sugar levels, children can grow up unhealthy with high insulin levels. In addition, both of those products are highly addictive because of the taste and contained sugar. Thus, if new generations become addicted to those kinds of products, it can lead to an unhealthy generation.
As another consequence, we can talk about the potential waste of money. Everybody knows that because of the addictive effects of those products, people try to consume them daily which can cause waste of money; in other words, they cost more than a daily meal that is cooked at home, and if people begin to eat in fast-food restaurants, they will waste the high percent of money that they are earning by working hard for long hours. For example, the basic Mac Menu costs approximately 10$ in Mcdonalds, and it can be seen as cheap, but if you use them roughly twice a day, it costs nearly 600$ spending for just junk food, which is more than minimum wage of some countries such as Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia.
To conclude, although people love eating fast food and sugary products, under no circumstances would I believe that the advertisement of them to children in schools is a positive development since it has a lot of drawbacks and consequences can be crucial.
