Band 7+: In some countries marriages are arranged by the parents. But in other cases people choose their own marriage partner.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In certain countries, parents are responsible for arranging marriages, while in other places, individuals select their own partners. In my opinion, selecting your own partner, can emphasize personal choice and romantic love.

In cultures where marriages are arranged by parents, the process often involves strategic considerations of family interests or social status. This method is more common in countries such as India, Japan. Arranged marriages typically emphasize compatibility in terms of family background, education, and financial stability, which can lead to stable and supportive partnerships. However, this system may limit individual freedom and personal choice, potentially leading to dissatisfaction if the couple’s personal desires are not match.

On the other hand, in societies where individuals are free to choose their own partners, such as in many Western countries, the emphasis is placed on personal compatibility and romantic love. This approach allows individuals to select partners based on shared interests, values, and emotional connection, potentially leading to harmonious relationships. However, the freedom to choose one’s partner can also introduce challenges, such as the pressure to find the “perfect” match. Additionally, this model often places greater responsibility on individuals to navigate the complexities of modern relationships and societal expectations.

In conclusion, the differing approaches to marriage—arranged by parents versus self-chosen partners—reflect broader cultural values and societal norms. While arranged marriages often prioritize family and social considerations, potentially offering stability and support, self-chosen marriages emphasize personal preference and emotional connection, potentially leading to more individualized and fulfilling relationships.
