The majority of the world population has a longer life expectancy than before. Some may reckon that elder population ageing day by day leads to various issues for governments. Others say, more ageing population in society means lots of advantages for governments and communities. What I believe is that, older citizens can provide unity in numerous societies. This essay will include why advantages of an ageing population outweigh the disadvantages.
On the one hand, an increasing number of elderly citizens is now a common development for each nation. Firstly, if a country has more elderly population than young population, it has a positive meaning which is, that society is an improved society and the government has the ability to provide facilities like healthcare and treatment for the ageing population. Meanwhile, if a society has more younger people than elder people, this society probably has some issues with poverty and scarcity of facilities. Secondly, a society which has an increasing population of younger people like babies, teenagers, it is distinct that death rates are higher. Finally, inhabitants that are ageing can provide unity, development for the society and a sense of peace.
On the other hand, to mention that an increasing number of elder people in a society means lots of effort for providing facilities, and if there’s not enough sources for the governments to supply, that might lead to serious challenges. For instance, pressure on medical sources, public healthcare systems, as older individuals generally require more medical attention, which is vital for elder people that needs help. Therefore, its necessary to provide these facilities for elderly people who might need crucial help and if not provided, it might hinder other solutions for different problems. Thus, governments may need to focus only for one thing, causing piled up problems.
In my own perspective, although the financial issues cannot be ignored, the benefits of an ageing population in a society are more substantial, especially for governments improving their healthcare and pension systems. With right policies, ageing population, which has an essential and meaningful role in society can continue to play their role rather than being viewed as a burden. To conclude, while there are undeniable disadvantages associated with an ageing population, the advantages outweigh them because elderly people has a lot more experience in life which means that they can contribute in several significant ways.
