In recent years, digital communication and social media have become very popular. Many people now spend more time chatting online than speaking face to face. Some people believe this change is reducing people’s ability to communicate well in person. I partly agree with this opinion.
On the one hand, social media can make face-to-face communication weaker. Today, many teenagers and adults use phones for hours every day. They often send messages instead of meeting people directly. Because of this, they may feel shy or uncomfortable during real conversations. For example, some students can easily talk online, but they cannot express their ideas confidently in class. In addition, online communication does not always show real emotions, body language, or eye contact. These are important parts of personal communication.
On the other hand, digital communication also has some positive sides. Social media helps people stay connected with friends and family who live far away. It also allows people to share ideas quickly and learn about different cultures. Some people become more confident because they can communicate with others online before speaking in person. For example, language learners often practise English on social media and later use it in real life conversations.
In conclusion, I believe that social media is affecting face-to-face communication in some negative ways, especially for young people. However, it also provides useful opportunities for communication and learning. People should try to balance online interaction with real-life communication to improve their social skills.
