Band 6+: In the development world, average life expectancy is increased, what problem will this cause for individual and society? Suggest some measure that be taken to reduced the impact of ageing population.

The rapidly flourishing world has simultaneously enhanced various aspects of life, including healthcare services which help increase the gross life expectancy. However, a portion of the population face the dilemma between whether it is a positive trend or not. This essay will pinpoint some problems and suggest plausible remedies to mitigate the detrimental effects of an aging population.

Delving into specifics for its problems, even though an aging population indicates thriving healthcare services, this phenomenon can lead to the increase in the dependence rate. In other words, the marked decline in workforce but increase in the quantity of dependents may leave a tremendous burden on governing authorities as well as family members. Additionally, it can also give rise to the lopsided investment as they have to pay a fortune for the welfare services, pension benefits and healthcare for senior citizens. Moreover, it may also jeopardize a nation’s economy in the light of the notable decline in workforce, threatening financial security. Furthermore, another point worth noting is that the degradation of gross mental well-being can be attributed to the aging population. To elaborate, the incapacity to continue working may make them susceptible to negative feelings, including being left behind and isolated, which can adversely affect the mental health of the elderly.

Regarding the feasible solutions for this trend, raising awareness of money management is also paramount since saving money can facilitate them to fend for themselves without the need to rely on the other family members as well as the government. In addition, the government can also implement suitable birth control policy to increase the number of infants per year. Besides, the government could offset these drawbacks by developing the service sector, especially the services related to healthcare for the senior citizens. Furthermore, the governing authorities can also initiate new career prospects which are suitable for the old generation. For example, the old can be regarded as invaluable and wise advisers as they have encountered numerous social setbacks, including recession, wars, and among others.

In conclusion, issues resulting from the aging population is one of the most daunting tasks that we are confronting and it will ultimately lead to various problems, consisting of the deterioration of the economy, mental health issues, high dependence rate and among others. However, aforementioned possible solutions such as the introduction of birth control policy, initiative employment opportunities and focus on the service sector could effectively tackle these problems.
