It is often suggested that planetary colonization can be essential for humanity. Due to this, some individuals are convinced that we should allocate budget to research celestial bodies, such as Mars. While I acknowledge the immense value of space exploration, I believe that due to extraterrestrial life breakthroughs, scientists start to ignore earth-bound issues such as climate change and environmental degradation.
On the one hand, planetary colonization is not only fundamentally assisting to extract new useful minerals, but it also appears to be a solid approach to contact other extraterrestrial civilization. In other words, colonization of habitable planets can refrain from overpopulation and sustain rapid development of technologies. For instance, extraction of new useful minerals can lead to technology breakthrough in energetics field allowing humanity use energy of the Solar system properly causing minimal side effects to space and Earth environment. Moreover, as humanity colonize celestial bodies, which are far beyond our galaxy, human beings will be able to get in touch with other cosmic nations and form unions or to prove that aliens are not in existence.
On the other hand, as scientific advancement accelerates, scientists disregard Earth-bound issues and this approach is counterproductive. Earth risks being destroyed forcing humanity to lose yet the only sustainable environment before establishing human settlements on Mars. Scientists prioritize exorbitant costs for space exploration rather than concentrating on solution for climate change and degradation of environment. To illustrate, air pollution worsens environment causing groceries to be poisonous and heats the air with greenhouse gases emissions. Furthermore, greenhouse gases deplete ozone layer which contributes to the entrance of UV radiation into atmosphere that triggers air warming.
From what has been discussed above, it may be concluded that while planetary colonization offers undeniable advantages in terms of technology development and space exploration, scientists must not forget about concerns on our planet specifically when there is significant progress. Scientists should pay attention more on tackling Earth-bound issues rather than celestial body research.
