In a world with advanced technological development, whether people will stop purchasing newspapers or books as those will be available online is a considerable topic of debate. Some experts believe that people will still rely on physical books, while some argue that online books offer several benefits. This essay will discuss both sides before my decision is made.
It is undeniable that technological devices play a crucial role in our life, whether for educational purposes or entertainment purposes. For example, online reading platforms contain trimendous amount of books, articles or journals that are free of charge to the public. Subsequently, other applications like Instagram or Facebook were able to spread and project the information regarding the news faster than the newspaper that only updates daily, while news online updates in the rate of minutes or hours. Moreover, as our planet Earth has experienced global warming in recent years, utilising less amount of papers to make books leads to lower rate of deforestation. By this, there will be less climate change happening around the world, which includes less likely floods and droughts occurring.
However, such devices like tablets or laptops are still not widely used for some groups of individuals such as elderly or poor-income families, where technologies are challenging to manage and take care of. Therefore, those groups of people will still need to rely on hard-copy of news-paper and books to gain that information. Additionally, specific types of books, for instance, scientific journals, history books and bibles that were written and published long ago may not be available on the internet due low demand of interest. Moreover, information on online, especially social media may be adjusted negatively from the real facts, therefore the users should be aware of what is true and what isn’t.
To conclude, while soft copy of books promotes convenience, environmental-friendly purposes, and provides updated facts and knowledge, I believe that some groups of people will still purchase printed versions due to the fact that technologies may not be accessible for them and some news online are not as trustworthy as the physical newspaper that has been authorised by the officials.
