Band 6+: In the modern world, schools are no longer necessary because there is so much information available through the internet that children can study just as well at home. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In the tech-driven society, there has been a growing concern about the necessity of schools as there is abundant available information through the internet for students to learn as well at home. Personally, I am firmly against this opinion for the reasons stated in the following essay.

To begin with, although information available throughout the digital platform is highly ample and diverse, its credibility and authenticity are not reassured for the users, especially children. Because children are greatly vulnerable and curious about novel things they observe online. Therefore, it is highly essential for schools to monitor and rationally guide students through daily lessons on behalf of their parents. For instance, the recent survey carried by Oxford University illustrates that over 56% of children under school management are shown to be more educated and have better academic performance than those who adopt an e-learning approach. Thus, it is undeniable that schools are still playing an indispensable role in fostering and nurturing children in every era.

In addition, as I mentioned above, children’s early access to internet platforms conceivably pave the way for potential risk and danger for themselves. To exemplify, students can obtain toxic and over-age information as they are rampant all over cyber platforms. Not only that, distorted news and distraction are other aspects that prevent students from concentrating on their primary work. Schools,thus, are irrefutably maintaining their pivotal role in the tech-driven educational background as they not only teach students how to effectively take advantage of technological advancements but also warn them about the negative face of the internet. Consequently, students can only maximize their personal potential in the pedagogical journey should they be well-educated and well-prepared for all the threats posed by online platforms which recent schools are aiming for and implementing quite effectively.

Succinctly put, although the surge of internet coming with a great deal of available information plays as a useful tool for children if carefully utilized, it cannot supersede schools in terms of academia by all means, therefore reinstate my view opposing the notion that schools are no longer neccessary.
