Band 5+: In the past, sporting champions used to be motivated primarily by the desire to win a match or to break world records. These days, they are more likely to be motivated by prize money and the opportunity to be famous. What message does this send to young people and how does this attitude to sport affect the sports themselves?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

A while back, the champions of different kinds of sport were motivated to get the victory in a match or to get world records, while recently, they are encouraged by the prize and chance to be popular. This trend not only effects to young generation because they are trying to choose their role models, but also can cause some critical issues to the reputation of sports themselves.

Years ago, athletes were disciplined to get the victories or breaking world records. However, in today’s world they are trying to be successful just because of the money and fame. This can effect to children as they are trying to be like their idols. In my point of view, this is because of the digital world we live in. Right now every sportsmen tries to be popular and get as many fans as they can in social media. It gives them much more money as big companies try to advertise their products with famous people.

In contrast to the effecting sport itself, it can reduce their reputation. When the athletes get more money from other companies and adverts rather than sports, they are more likley to quit the game and continue to be influencer or model etc. This will decrease the desire of new generation to be sportsman and try to get the victories or world records for their name.

To sum up, while in the past champions used to be motivated by the desire to win or get world records, recently they are trying to be successfull and wealthy. This is effecting not only young generation also to be desirable only for money and fame instead of being successfull in the history of sport but also decreases the reputation of sport itself.
