There is much debate about whether watching TV is good or bad for the development of children. In my opinion, watching TV is better for developing children as they have an opportunity to watch educational TV shows which help them develop positive values as they grow up and learn outside of school in a fun environment.
On one hand, some people believe that watching TV is harmful for children’s behavior. Childrens might end up watching inappropriate tv shows instead of children tv shows which may not be appropriate for their age, which could lead them to learn bad habits and inappropriate languages. However, I believe this argument is only valid if children spend too much time in front of the screen without adult supervision. Parents can protect their children from the potential dangers of watching TV by setting reasonable time limits, putting a child lock on the tv and providing adequate supervision.
On the other hand, there are people who argue that many tv programs are educational and can instill good values in children. For example, in Nepal, I have seen many children learn different languages on their own after being exposed to cartoon shows on tv from different parts of the world. Children exposed to age-appropriate tv shows are smarter, more creative and have a higher level of thinking capacity as they get opportunities to learn different things visually outside of school as well. This has led me to believe that educational tc programs can be excellent tools for teaching moral lessons to children as they grow and develop. Many children find traditional forms of education boring or difficult to understand but the visual and interactive nature of tv can make learning more engaging.
In conclusion, although watching tv passively and for a longer time can be detrimental, watching educational tv shows in moderation can have a positive impact on children’s development. Such shows can effectively impart valuable lessons and teach positive values in a engaging and entertaining manner.
