Over the past decades, research into talent has evolved considerably, leading many scientists to believe that children are born with innate qualities and abilities. However, a contrasting viewpoint suggests that with the right guidance and persistent effort, any child can be moulded into a high achiever in various fields. I strongly believe that people’s capabilities are shaped by an abundance of factors during their upbringing, rather than solely by their parents genes; moreover, a high level of proficiency, diligence and personality could be developed in most people by both nature and nurture.
Recent studies indicate that genes significantly influence talents, contributing to variations in aptitude for music, sports, intelligence, and creative abilities. In other words, those born with specific abilities often require less effort to achieve their goals compared to others. For instance, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was able to compose music at the age of five and Blaise Pascal independently proved many of Euclid’s geometric conclusions, without having access to textbooks when he was young. These examples depict how natural talent can facilitate early success in a chosen field, highlighting the partial significance of genetic contribution.
Nonetheless, the notion that talent develops via consistent practice and appropriate instructions contends that it can be cultivated through profound dedication and tireless toil. Plenty of successful and influential individuals lacked any outstanding genetic inheritance, nurturing their abilities via intense and frequent practise, tenacity, and self-reliant delving into subjects. Albert Einstein is one of the most vivid examples of such dedication. He started talking late, earned dismal grades across all subjects in school, and later failed his exams, yet this did not stop him from making groundbreaking discoveries in physics and receiving the Nobel Prize.
Ultimately, while genetic predisposition can facilitate our progress in fields like science, sports or music, hard work and diligence are still required to excel. Undoubtedly, natural talent can create an advantage, but with regular training and dedicated learning any child can surpass those with inherent capabilities.
