Band 5+: It is more important for schoolchildren to learn about local history than world history. To what extent do you agree or disagree

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a prevailing notion that students nowadays should learn a lot about their own country’s history rather than worldwide history. While I acknowledge that this tendency is somewhat justifiable, I believe that they should have a general knowledge about history worldwide.

On the one hand, it is understandable why it is beneficial to focus on the regional past. One reason is that it helps younger generations remember the ways their ancestors gained their independence and built their country. Take the Vietnamese historical era and Vietnamese children as a perfect example, schoolchildren should deeply understand their own country’s past as well as the period their nation developed after a long time attacked and protected their nation. As a result, not only did they profoundly appreciate

and empathize how difficult they must be dealt with, but they will also hold responsible to maintain or even advance their country.

On the other hand, there are two primary reasons as to why I contend that the government should put world history into educational programmes. Firstly, understanding about the worldwide past helps youngests easily understand their nation’s past. This perspective could be corroborated by the fact that all the past events have a rigid connection. Thus, this is one of the ways to provide learners with various useful knowledge about history. Furthermore, attaining cultural literacy aids younger generations other advantages. This is because history is usually concerned with the future and present, and therefore, it is advantageous to someone learning about politics, economics or even investors. Ultimately, individuals could broaden their horizons as well as expand their overall knowledge.

In conclusion, whereas only studying about the regional past is somewhat beneficial, I also believed that people should learn international ones which make later generations gain deeper insights into the past human dignity.
