Education in recent times has created many problems. These divide opinions of people who try to find an answer to them. One of these obstacles is teaching children of different levels of intelligence. One side says that more intelligent children should be taught separately from the others, while others believe that all children, no matter what intelligence level, should be taught together. In this essay, I will discuss both points of view in favor of the latter.
On the one hand, by teaching children of different levels of intelligence together, we ensure that all of them get the same opportunities and education. By creating special classes for more gifted students, we close gates for the other ones, thus lowering their chances of success in the future. Adding to that, some students may feel disencouraged, in the end giving up on their dreams or feeling discriminated. Another advantage of having classes together is finding hidden gems, amongst students who have lower levels of intelligence. There has been many cases in history when a younger person has been written off because he was not smart enough, only to start a successful business five years later. That’s why instead of giving up on these kids, we should give everyone the same amount of attention.
On the other hand, by creating classes based on level of intelligence, we can focus on more complicated material with more advanced students, who do not have problems with easier material, and help those who have. By this we provide the accurate amount of care and attention to each individual, thas boosting their academic performance and chances of success in the future. The downside of this method is discriminating kids with lower levels of intelligence, due to creation of system that favors the more intelligent ones over the others.
