The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise in companies for employee selection. AI is now commonly employed to analyze CVs and conduct online interviews. In my opinion, the benefits of AI-driven employee selection processes cannot outweigh the disadvantages for several reasons.
Currently, the world is increasingly reliant on AI, which provides us with a sense of convenience in many ways. For instance, when companies recruit new employees, they often choose remote options. The most popular methods include conducting Zoom meetings and utilizing AI to review resumes. These approaches are both time-efficient and flexible.
Despite the successful application of AI in nearly every sector of our daily lives, including recruitment, it has numerous drawbacks. Since artificial intelligence is entirely technology-based, any software or technological errors that occur while analyzing candidates’ resumes can have significant consequences for applicants. For example, a person who is highly capable and deserving of a job may be overlooked due to non-manual recruitment processes. Additionally, it is often easier to evaluate a candidate by asking intellectual questions tailored to their specific qualifications, which can only be effectively done by a human interviewer.
Another disadvantage of AI in hiring is that some candidates may not be accustomed to online interviews conducted by automated systems. Before any job interview, candidates often feel nervous, making it crucial to create a comfortable environment before asking job-related questions that assess their capabilities and knowledge. If this process is handled by AI – which lacks emotions – it is likely to result in the selection of unsuitable candidates, as their skills and dedication cannot be fairly evaluated by an algorithm.
In conclusion, while many companies are shifting their recruitment processes from in-person meetings to automated systems, the drawbacks of this approach significantly outweigh the potential benefits. Hiring someone is a substantial investment for an employer, and it should be handled by human recruiters to ensure a fair selection process.
