Band 6+: Many criminals re-offended after they have been punished. Why do some people continue to commit crimes after they have been punished, and what measures can be taken to tackle this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Numerous criminals come back to crime after they had a punishment before. While there are some primary causes of this trend, measures to prevent the crime can be possible.

The reason why many ex-criminals re-offend after the crime is that they are lack of career prospects because of social sigma. After returning to common life, they struggle in finding a work place, which may lead to crime again. Causes from their past will always affect to their current life. Furthermore, they have already been accustomed to criminal environment, which will be the trigger to do the crime again, in spite of the punishment they experienced. With such a vulnerable community, the time of freedom might be not that long.

Effective countermeasures to solve these issues must be set by the authorities. One of the examples to remedy this problem is reducing leniency in judicious system, which means the consequences of the crime will be strict. Because, people prone to illegal activities will continue doing the same actions, as they know the implications will also be a piece of cake. If the government remove all easy ways of punishment, criminals are likely to escape from that . As a solution, it can be beneficial to raise social security of punished people. Although they had a period of doing something not acceptable thing, they are eligible for access to the second chance. Noticing that they have a place in the community of people, they will keep living in peace.

In conclusion, even though, there are numerous reasons to commit crime again driven by lack of career or presence of criminal environment, the solutions like raising their social status and setting strict rules against crime worth its upcoming results.
