In recent years, a large amount of foods are produced and distributed everywhere. However, many people reveal that it is difficult to get food shipped supplanting local food which has positive effects on the environment as well as the economy. This phenomenon leads to two upsides, namely reducing regional pollution and creating more job opportunities for local people. Besides, it causes a shortage of cultural exchange between regions. In my opinion, I believe the benefits pale in comparison with the drawbacks.
Granted, this situation brings two merits. The first of which is the reduction of pollution caused by vehicle emissions. When citizens prefer their traditional food, food transport facilities decrease significantly. As a result, this trend entails the reduction of the emissions relieved by them into the environment. Another advantage of this trend is that it generates additional employment opportunities. The development of local food results in a series of farms which require a large human resources, so this trend helps many people escape unemployment. For example, since 2010, when Vietnam’s government has encouraged citizens to consume their traditional food, the rate of people having jobs has increased significantly, from 68.5% to 80%.
However, there is an adverse impact on the national economy. Firstly, eating many local foods reduces cultural exchange between regions and countries. If foods produced regionally are appreciated higher than one shipped from abroad, the appearance of food from other regions as well as foreign food is increasingly rare. As a result, people do not have a chance to approach other cuisines. For example,
In conclusion, although there is one downside of this trend, namely the reduction of cultural exchange. I think the benefits such as decreasing air pollution in the region and facilitating more job opportunities for local people are clearly more significant.
