Many individuals believe that state taxes, which are reduced from income, are the barrier for people to save money and spend on themselves. Although some people support this idea, I disagree with the notion.
First of all, taxpayers’ money is used for specific reasons that improve the living conditions of citizens. This budget mainly returns to individuals in specific fields, such as healthcare and pensions for retirement. In most cases, medical assistance can be expensive in many countries where insurance is not provided; however, social security taxes can cover the medical fees either fully or partially. Such benefits can be crucial for citizens, especially elderly people who just retired. Additionally, retirees receive monthly income as part of their pension, which is built up by the time they paid taxes while working. Although the amount received monthly is not the same as what they earned while working, it is calculated to cover necessities and all living essentials which gives them confidence to enjoy retirement worry-free and take care of themselves.
On the other hand, taxation is part of the commitment to society made by citizens. Governments use tax money to build new facilities, such as parks, theaters, and public libraries, to contribute to the needs of humanity. These constructions are made from the granted budgets of authorities who manage tax payments. Furthermore, authorities finance the security budget with the help of taxation. Governments spend almost one-third of taxpayers’ money on security, investing in security systems, like advanced CCTV cameras and X-ray machines, which are mainly located near the entrances of central places to provide maximum security and improve living conditions for all individuals. These investments increase the safety index and eventually increase the happiness level in the country.
In conclusion, many people believe that if they did not have to pay taxes, they would enjoy their lives better while having more money left to spend; however, I disagree with this argument due to the reasons mentioned above.
