Since various environmental issues have been caused by human’s forces, natural disasters such as flooding have been significantly increasing. This problem is caused by some factors, and it should be dealt with by several viable solutions.
There are a number of reasons why flooding occurs more frequently. First of all, due to global warming, being well-known as a global concern because of its devastating effect on environment, the temperature rises, snow and ice can suddenly melt, which increases the volume of the rivers. As a result, it causes massive floods in a certain region, damages wildlife or residential areas that come in its path. Secondly, the cutting of trees is also a major reason of flooding. Trees prevent soil erosion, the loss of crops and also enrich the vegetation. Moreover, it blocks the massive flow of rain, thus preventing flooding. However, people tend to cut down trees more and more to construct houses or exploit wood which exacerbate the damage of flooding to life and property.
In order to address the aforementioned issues, several actions can be taken. Fistly, governments could invest money in irrigation works and facilities. More specifically, they could build emergency houses to protect people during the flood, upgrade levees and dams. Another efficacious way is to organise propaganda campaigns to encourage the mass in planting trees . For instance, in Vietnam, due to the effective propaganda operations, various forests have been planted on bare hills to prevent floods. Additionally, deforestation should be restricted by Government. They could create a law to prohibit people who cut down trees illegally as well as control the amount of wood sold on the market.
In conclusion, the dramatic increase in flooding can be ascribed to two main factors which are the heavy melting of ice and deforestation, and this issue can be dealt with by a joint effort of both public and the government.
