Some individuals suggest that high school students should be allowed to evaluate and criticize their teachers, whereas majority of the people claim that this could be perceived as being disrespectful to educators generally.
Although, I acknowledge the disadvantages of letting students give comments to teachers, I still uphold this idea. I strongly support its significant potential in the field of education. This essay will discuss both views before arriving at a reasoned conclusion.
On the one hand, the students should not be encouraged to give derogatory remarks to their teachers since it may lead to disrespectful acts of students and poor performance on the teachers’ during lessons. The main reason is that the students might make complaints which are based on personal biases which are subjective remarks. Since secondary school students are mostly less mature, they may pose a lack of awareness on the consequences of their words In the academy where I have been working as a student assistant, I have witnessed some students who made negatively fake comments such as unprofessional teaching which is because the teachers were strict to them and the students want to change others. So, this encouragement might not be helpful for improving the quality of education. In contrast, it might facilitate students’ high expectations for teachers.
On the other hand, welcoming comments from students contributes to the development of the education system. Through constructive feedback, teachers could better understand the learning needs of students such as skills development or behavioral guidance. Besides, the students could also get better outcomes in the process of studying since they are supported by their teachers in a suitable way. From my observation, there are study methods and demands too. For example, a student may just want to practice speaking through several conversations during classes should not be forced to focus on doing homework or taking Mock tests. Therefore, in order to be guided by teachers properly, students should let their teachers know their specific needs.
In conclusion, giving high school students the privilege to make comments directed at educators may pose some problems. However, I strongly believe that its benefits cannot be denied as it can significantly improve the quality of education in a long term perspective.
