In recent years, traffic jams have become a serious issue in countries, especially in urban areas. This concerning situation can be attributed to rising private vehicles and the shortage of reliable roads. However, several measures, such as providing sufficient and reliable public transports and constructing highways can be taken to address the problem.
There are several factors contributing to this burning problem. One clear reason for this problem is that citizens’ preferences have changed. They tend to go work or university by their personal cars compered to these days when many people went to work or study by public transport or bike. As a result, there are numerous private vehicles on the road, which causes traffic congestion. Another contributing factor is lack of major roads. Now that the number of vehicles on roads is increasing dramatically, there should be reliable roads. However, most of the roads are quite narrow and old-dated, they cannot serve for all transports, thereby leading traffic jams. My city’s case would be a great illustration in this circumstances. My city’s some roads were erected in SSSR empire period, and they cannot afford to serve all types of transport, seeing that citizens have to wait quite long time in traffic congestion if they want to go somewhere.
Despite the seriousness of the issue, there are practical solutions that could help alleviate it. The first and feasible solution is providing sufficient public transport method. If the government fund to improve the public transports by importing modern means of transportation and keeping fares low, it can encourage people to use public transport, such as bus and underground railway. Moreover, erecting highways and expanding old roads could also be an effective approach. Widening roads in central business districts will reduce traffic pressure during peak hours. Unless this measure were implemented, other solutions cannot afford to ease this problem, as major roads are a requirement in both developing and developed cities. To illustrate, inn Dubai, Major roads and highways are built and serve properly, although there are still numerous private vehicles. This approach address the issue in an effective way.
In conclusion, although traffic congestion presents serious challenges, it can be managed through providing sufficient and reliable public transportation means and expanding roads.
