The topic of studying abroad has sparked debate, since many students increasingly prefer studying in a foreign nation. In my opinion, studying abroad is one of the most important decisions that learners can make because it provides them with several benefits, such as gaining independence and challenging themselves by stepping out of their comfort zones.
Firstly, people who decide to live and study abroad are more likely to develop strong characters through their daily social interactions with individuals from different backgrounds. This encourages international learners to take responsibility for different aspects of life, such as their education, finances, and health. In addition, living alone in a foreign country forces people to face their insecurities and learn how to deal with several daily life situations, and to develop their interpersonal skills, including communication and teamwork. Moreover, people who have studied in a foreign country are more likely to secure promising job opportunities in their hometowns because of the valuable knowledge and experience that they earn during their time abroad. For instance, a Moroccan student with a German master’s degree is more likely to secure an advantageous position in a local firm thanks to the knowledge he learned in Germany.
Secondly, students without self-awareness can face some difficulties in adapting to a foreign culture, since many learners are more familiar with their local environment. Studying abroad may seem complex to them, as they are forced to adapt to a new environment and learn financial literacy rules. However, many learners fail in their adaptation process, and many of them turn to drug addiction in order to avoid their problems, which in turn leads to many issues that can affect their studies and career journeys in general. Furthermore, young people with low financial literacy can face problems in budgeting and managing their money, which can lead to serious economic difficulties. For example, many students are fully dependent on their parents’ monthly salaries. This can impact the entire family and force them to take out bank loans, which include high taxes and interest rates.
In conclusion, although studying in a foreign nation comes with some difficulties, especially financial ones, I strongly believe that it provides individuals with real advantages that can benefit their professional lives and offer them unprecedented opportunities
