These days, discussions about religion are increasing among all ages of humanity. People are becoming more interested in their faith and even starting to pray five times a day. Many believe that religious subjects should be taught to the younger generation in schools; however, another segment of the community disagrees with this idea and thinks it should be avoided. In this essay, I will consider both sides of the argument and provide my opinion.
On one hand, supporters of teaching religion argue that it provides pupils with essential basics and values that can significantly benefit society. A vast majority of people today truly believe in God and their respective religions. It is seen as necessary to know the answers to basic questions, especially in Islamic countries. By learning about religion, individuals may strive to be good examples, avoiding conflicts, inhuman behavior, and criminal activities, which can help them become more calm and polite. Proponents of this view might already be well-informed about their religious values and wish for their children to grow up in a positive community. For instance, in our country, there are already many schools across every city that teach religion, and it is gaining popularity over time.
On the other hand, those who hold an opposing view argue that religious lessons can influence children’s minds and distract them from the primary purpose of school. Currently, many parents are focused on ensuring their children have the best opportunities for their future careers. To become successful in their chosen professions, parents want their children to complete school with good grades and a solid understanding of subjects that will help them apply to the best universities. Therefore, they may consider religious classes to be an additional burden for their kids, potentially leading them down an unintended path.
In conclusion, although teaching pupils about religious values can enhance their personal development, some individuals believe it may distract children from learning fundamental subjects. Personally, I believe that religious subjects should be included in the school curriculum.
