There is no doubt that education plays a major role in shaping children’s values and understanding of the world. One topic that oftenly discussed among parents and causes debate is whether religion should be included as part of school program. Some people believe that religion should be mandatory subject at school, while others claim that subjects which affect to children’s moral values should be avoided. In this essay, I will look at both sides of the argument and give my opinion.
Many people hold the view that religion helps to build moral values of young students. They argue that learning about religion has a positive effect on behavior and that children can distinguish between good and evil. Religion includes many moral teaching, such as honestly, respect and kindness, which can guide children in their daily lives. As a result, student who learn about religion become more respectful and responsible members of society. For this reason, supporters claim that teching religion at school plays significant role in shaping good people.
There is a common belief that school should remain neutral in order to prevent moral conflicts. They argue that different religious views put pressure on students and can even lead to discrimination among learners.
In a classroom where students have diffferent religious backgrounds and some learners may feel insecure and excluded. As a result, they may afraid to share about their beliefs or opinions because of feelings for fear of being judged. Therefore, supporters of this view claim that religion should be avoided in classrooms so that all students feel safe and equal during lessons.
To sum up, even through religion develop moral value in the young generation, I believe that school should remain neutral in order to prevent religios conflicts and provide a safe environment for all students.
