It is true that nowadays, many employees and workers find it challenging to alleviate free time off work to spend with their relatives and close friends. There are various factors that leading to this trend and in this essay I will point out some viable influences it have on both family life and society.
There are two main reasons as to why several workers are unable to manage and have free time for their families and friends. Firstly, the high living costs in major cities have placed an immense pressure on the shoulders of people who living and working there, they have to pay for many expenses, such as the personal income tax, food, and rent. To earn enough money to living on and pay for all of these expenditures, employees tend to work overtime and find a side jobs. As a result, when they come home from work, there are not enough time for them to spend with their spouse or children. Another driving factor is that with technological advancements in recent decades, significant numbers of people, especially younger generations, have become addicted to the Internet and become isolated from society. They would rather spend time surfing the Internet or playing video games than strengthen the bonds with their family members or friends.
With all the reasons I have mentioned, I would argue that the trend of reduced time spend with family and friends has negatively impacted not only the family but also the society as a whole. Regarding former, the heavy workload that prevent parents from spending their time with children would widened the generation gaps, which could lead to conflicts and misunderstandings. Additionally, parental neglect could negative impact in the children’s development, some of them are likely to suffer from the higher risk of mental disorders, such as depression and anxiety.
In conclusion, busy work schedules and addiction of Internet are to blame for the growing trend of increasingly less family and friend together time, and I firmly believe that this phenomenon has detrimental effects on both society and family.
