Nowadays, there is a plethora of people being concerned with their appearance and the clothes they wear. Although, one might reckon that this trend is positive, I believe that there are a lot of indispensable drawbacks.
On the one hand, an inadequate wish to be dressed especially in fashionable clothes might be harmful for one’s unique personality. Firstly, those who care too much about drab clothes tend to have an addiction to acquisitiveness. In other words, people might blindly follow some trends set by influencers without being aware of whether a concrete trend suits their personality or not. As a result, people will turn a blind eye to their own desires by following trends that are mostly tightly tied with strong and vivid advertisements that are made in order to make a corporation affluent and earn big sums of money. Secondly, sometimes a basic wish to buy fashionable clothes might cause a shopping addiction. Thus, that addiction might affect one’s health and evolve in a serious mental disease.
On the other hand, being overconcerned with fashion might also negatively affect the outer world. Fashion is tied with consumerism which means the acquisitiveness always results in ferocious consumption. The more concerned with fashion people are, the higher the pollution level becomes. The ubiquitous pollution happens not only because of people who consider fashion and buying goods as a superiority for them, but also because of the resources that are required to produce clothes. Moreover, fashion brands make use of children labour in countries with high levels of poverty. That means that any drab piece might have a tragic and cruel history behind it connected with slavery.
To conclude, notwithstanding the fact that it is natural for people to wish to follow trendsetters, I perceive excessive concerns with fashion as a negative trait, as modern fashion is an industry built on moneymaking and it seems that the least part of the world population can be called conscious buyers.
