Band 6+: More and more women are now going out to work and some women are now the major salary earner in the family. What are the causes of this, and what effects does this have on families and society?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The majority of women used to stay at home and handle household tasks like cleaning and cooking. This position has changed as a result of women’s liberation and feminism, and in contemporary society, women and men play nearly equal roles in the workplace. This essay examines some of the reasons why this is happening and analyses the effects it is having on communities.

A primary driver of this shift is the increasing empowerment of women. Improved access to education and career opportunities, coupled with changing societal attitudes towards gender roles, have enabled women to pursue higher education and professional careers. Government initiatives promoting gender equality in the workplace, such as equal pay legislation and parental leave policies, have also played a crucial role. For instance, the increasing number of women in STEM fields demonstrates a clear trend towards greater female participation in traditionally male-dominated professions.Secondly, increased access to quality education has been instrumental in empowering women to pursue higher-paying jobs.

These have led to some significant effects, both to family life and to society as a whole. Although the earning capacity of a woman in her lifetime is generally much less than that of a man, she can nevertheless make a significant contribution to the family income. The most important consequence of this is an improved quality of life. For instance, more families living in the USA are having working partners which stabilise family spending. Moreover, it makes women independent to live in the community as they can earn for living.

In conclusion, the increasing participation of women in the workforce has profoundly impacted both families and society. While contributing to improved family finances and greater female independence, this trend also presents challenges, including potential strains on family life and the persistence of gender inequality in many sectors. Addressing these complexities and achieving true gender equality remains a crucial objective for the 21st century.
