It is becoming increasingly popular for people to use online websites for educational purposes. Although there might be some positive aspects to online educational sources, in my opinion, I believe that the negative aspects outweigh any of the benefits that may occur.
Admittedly, there are some advantages to digital educational sources. Firstly, they proved to be more convenient. They are easily accessible on different devices, and they give people the flexibility of learning anywhere at their own pace. Udemy, for example, a website that offers online courses on any desired subject, gives people pre-recorded courses that are accessible through multiple platforms. Secondly, they are relatively cheaper. This is because many educational websites offer discounts and promotional offers on their courses. Some websites, for instance, have a lifetime membership on all their courses for an affordable price, making it a wise financial choice.
Nevertheless, despite the advantages above, I believe that the disadvantages of online educational sources can cause serious problems. One issue is that many of these sources provide wrong information. Unofficial IELTS sources, for example, claim to provide studying materials, exams, and tips that help people achieve high scores; however, most of these materials are not accurate and will give a false impression of what is required to achieve high band scores, resulting in failing the exam. Another major problem is getting scammed by these sources. Fraud is a common practice among these websites, and many people will fall for these scams. As a result, people can lose money, lose their credit card information, or be subjected to identity theft. Therefore, making these sources a high risk.
In conclusion, I believe that the wrong information being taught on these educational sources and the risk of getting scammed greatly outweigh any of the minor advantages that they provide.
