Band 6+: Most societies are based on rules and laws. If individuals were free to do whatever they wanted, society could not function. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Rules and regulations are the foundation for a large number of societies. Furthermore, society would not be able to function properly if people had the freedom to do as they please. I wholeheartedly agree with this statement because a lack of rules would mean more thieving would take place, thus hurting the respective country’s economy. Moreover, innocent people would be put in harm’s way.

Due to the fact that many people would resort to stealing and robbing various establishments and homes, the economy of the country would be drastically affected. For instance, lots of people will lose their homes and shops and become homeless and penniless. In addition, the number of tourists visiting the country would also decrease, as they would feel unsafe to visit a place where there is a lack of law enforcement, further worsening the economic crisis of the country.

Consequently, people who are severely injured, such as patients in hospitals may become collateral damage if people are let to do as they please. These hospitals might be subject to frequent attacks from these individuals, resulting in deterioration of their mental health along with their physical well-being. In fact, the people living in houses without adequate security facilities or in less affluent neighborhoods may be unable to sleep in peace as they might fear the impending attack that is to befall them, as a result losing their sanity and sense of safety.

In conclusion, rules and laws exist in society for extremely valid reasons and I would argue that enforcing them will lead to less crimes being committed and endangering the financial situation of the country, along with the mental and physical condition of its citizens.
