Band 6+: Musical education should be mandatory in school curricula as it develop cognitive abilities applicable to other academic areas. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, with the development of modernization and industrialization, music is indispensable in every person’s life. Hence, some educators believe that children should be taught to play a musical instrument at school, while others claim that it is not necessary. In my perspective, I utterly agree with this argument.

To begin with, there are numerous reasons why music plays a vital role in education. The first one is that music is a good way to improve mental health by relieving stress. For instance, thanks to playing music, students could blow off some steam after a long period of time that requires logical thinking such as Math, Physical or Chemical. Besides, it is possible that through playing musical instruments, children can develop their cognitive abilities. To be more specific, learning an instruments requires players combine different abilities simultaneously such as hearing, seeing and singing; therefore, every child can become a multitasking person.

Another reason related to this is that people can enhance their circle of friends by playing musical instruments. Clearly, music will be able to help students easily make friends with other children who have a something in common including singing and playing music in front of a crowd, self-creating lyrics and catch up with the up-to-date songs. In that case, they can be accepted by many musical clubs in schools if they develop their music skills. With luck, they can enter musical clubs in schools or even musical academies to further their talents.

To conclude, the outstanding phenomenon mentioned above has highlighted numerous benefits of musical education. As far as I am concerned, I believe that children should be encouraged to play some kind of musical instrument, bringing about beneficial advantages for them, both mentally and socially.
