Nowadays it is becoming more common for students to take a gap year after finishing school and before going to university. Some people believe this is a good choice while others think students should continue their education immediately. I think this is a positive trend because it gives young people more experience and helps them prepare for the future.
The main reason is that many students finish school without knowing what career they want. A gap year gives them time to think about their future. They can try different jobs and learn new skills. They can also earn money for university because education is expensive.
Another advantage is that students can improve important skills. For example they can learn English meet new people or travel to another country. They become more confident and learn how to solve problems by themself. These skills are useful at university and in future work. Many employers like people with some experience.
However there are also some disadvantages. Some students may lose motivation to study after one year. They may enjoy working and decide not to go to university. Other students may waste their gap year and learn nothing new.
In my opinion the advantages are greater than the disadvantages. A gap year can help students grow as people and prepare for adult life. If they have a good plan they will return to university with more knowledge more confidence and more motivation. For these reasons I believe taking a gap year is a positive trend and it can give many benefits in the future.
