In the modern era, some individuals hold the belief that online schooling brings more advantages than conventional schooling. While studying may have positive impacts on both society and students themselves, I believe that the drawbacks it brings are greater.
On the one hand, there are various benefits of studying online, one of which is that students can save money for other investments. To be more specific, with access to the Internet and smart devices such as laptops and mobile phones, individuals can attend online classes without leaving home, meaning that students do not pay fees for travelling to school. Moreover, if students go to school and are involved in traffic accidents, they may have to pay a substantial amount of money for hospital and medicine, which will not happen if online schooling is applied. Therefore, their financial capability can be extended to use for other stuyding purposes or to improve their standard of living. To illustrate this point, a report of a high school applying online studying revealed that students’ tuition fees have decreased significantly, leading to students having better studying tools and opportunities to join other courses in school. However, students may face eye problems if staring at the screen for a long time.
On the other hand, there are a wide range of challenges in online schooling. The main one is that students face health problems and lack communication skills. In other words, the average time for classes in school usually lasts for hours, meaning that students may have to concentrate on the screen for a long time, which is extremely harmful to eyes thanks to the blue light from the screen. If this continues, their vision may become blurry over time and students may have to wear glasses. Furthermore, studying online requires students to be alone so they do not get distracted, resulting in a lack of interaction with friends during studying hours. Over time, individuals slowly lose their communication skills and when meeting other friends face to face, they tend to show poor behaviours. For instance, research in HCM city showed that after a year of online schooling, the rate of students wearing glasses has increased significantly, and when it came to school reunion day, students talked awkwardly to each other.
In conclusion, although studying online may benefit financial capability so that students can invest in themselves, it is inevitable that students may have to deal with eye problems and lose communication skills. Therefore, a balance between traditional classes and online classes is needed for long-term benefits
