In the contemporary era, a substantial number of individuals opt to relocate to distant locales in pursuit of enhanced occupational opportunities, often necessitating separation from their close associates and family members. I believe that this trend presents a balance of advantages and disadvantages, yet the potential benefits are likely to surpass the drawbacks.
Gaining better job prospects is the dream of every individual. Most people are willing to do whatever it takes to succeed and earn more money, even if it means moving to distant locations for work. For example, many women in Indonesia prefer to work in Malaysia or other foreign countries because they can earn a higher salary compared to working in their own country. Another important factor is that some individuals have a desired lifestyle that they want to achieve. It’s difficult for them to attain their desired lifestyle, such as owning better houses or cars, when they work in their hometown.
Moving away from family and friends can come with several drawbacks. We often experience homesickness and cultural shock, which can make us feel sad and long for our hometown. Additionally, we need to learn to adapt to the new locations where we choose to work. While relocating for work can have its advantages, it can also make us miss the traditional culture of our places of origin. For example, many workers who migrate from Indonesia miss traditional home cooking, which is hard to find in their new locations.
