In today’s world, individuals are more inclined to wear Western clothing instead of traditional ones. There are several reasons why people are more likely to prefer Western attire. However, unfortunately, this shift brings more drawbacks than positive outcomes.
One major cause of wearing more Western attire is globalization. This phenomenon has led to a significant cultural exchange across the globe, enabling the widespread acceptance of Western fashion. For instance, individuals from different countries interact more frequently through travel, trade, and technology, making Western clothing styles more visible and accessible. Another key reason is the influence of social media. This exposure creates a desire to copy these trends; as a result, many choose Western attire over traditional clothing. Platforms like Instagram and TikTok allow fashion trends to spread rapidly, with influencers presenting Western styles to their followers.
From my perspective, there are several setbacks to this trend. One of the most significant negative consequences is the loss of cultural identity. Nowadays, people are highly likely to prefer Western styles, and this phenomenon leads to a disconnection from their cultural heritage. For instance, whilst shopping, adolescents often opt for clothes that reflect styles different from their traditional clothing. Last but not least, preferring more Western clothes has negative impacts on local businesses. When individuals buy more universal types of clothing, it results in a decrease in local producers’ revenues. In addition, local designers struggle to compete with global Western brands, which can overshadow their creativity.
In conclusion, there are several reasons why people prefer Western styles, such as globalization and the impact of social media. however, this phenomenon brings about the loss of cultural identity and the weakening of local businesses.
