Band 7+: Nowadays there is such a variety of digital resources available for students to use in class that the role of the teacher could be completely replaced. To what extent do you agree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

It is believed that it is unnecessary for teachers to be involved into the learning process, as students now have an access to a wide range of online resources. I agree with this statement to a certain degree, since there are a lot of opportunities for pupils to self-study; however I believe that teachers’ expertise is a key factor in students’ success.

Due to the rapid advancement in technologies, self-studying has become a straightforward and favourable approach. Students are now able to acquire new knowledge by using apps which suggest different methods, based on their weaknesses and strengths. As a case in point, a digital platform called StudyFetch provides a virtual space with an AI tutour to help people study better. It provides a learning-plan, specially designed for each user, considering their performance and goals. For instance, if a student wants to study a particular topic in a very limited period of time, artificial intelegence will create the most suitable plan to achieve this aim. Moreover it will track their performance and may provide additional exercises to close the gaps.

On the other hand, teachers can have a better influence on pupils’ success in studying. To start with, during obtaining a degree in teaching, they are specially educated how to work with children and present the information in an engaging way. This knowledge prevent students from being overwhelmed with baffling information provided in books. For instance, an educator might convert tedious materials into a creative game, such as playing with a paper cake slices to learn fractions. Furthermore, since educators are experts in a specific field, they provide accurate and relevant content, which may be a challenge for various digital resources. For example, many articles on the internet may contain distorted information which is likely to confuse a pupil; thus, a teacher appears to be a reliable source of knowledge.

In conclusion, cutting-edge materials and facilities deminish the need of a teacher in class, as children have more posibilities to study on their own. Despite this, I am inclined to believe that educators still remain irreplaceble, owing to the expertise in their field.

Air transport is increasingly used to export fruits and vegetables to countries where they cannot be grown or out of season. Is this a positive or negative development?

Fresh organic produce is more frequently exported to regions where it is out of season or unable to grow. Personally, I think this is a good opportunity for other countries since it allows people to eat different varieties of fruits or vegetables throughout the year although there are some serious disadvantages because of the harmful […]

Some people think that governments should ban private cars from city centres.

In modern society, it is often argued that private vehicles should not be allowed in city centres. I strongly agree with this opinion, it can create cleaner cities and encourage the use of public transport. Admittedly, banning private cars from city centres may have some disadvantages such as high level of pressure on public transport […]

Some people believe that children should not be given homework everyday, while others believe that they must get homework everyday in order to be successful at school. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

While some consider everyday homework as essential for academic success, others view it as additional unnecessary work. This essay will discuss both views. I believe assessing homework is a key part of learning and enhancing skills. People who consider homework important may view it as an easier way to success, because it allows students to […]

In some societies, adults are increasingly choosing to delay major life decisions, such as marriage or having children, until their 40s. What factors contribute to this shift? Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?

Both the pros and cons are elaborated in the ensuing paragraphs. Examining […]

In some schools and universities, girls tend to choose arts subjects (e.g. literature), and boys tend to choose science subjects (e.g. physics). Why do you think this is so? Should this tendency be changed?

In many educational systems, the majority of girls are inclined to study arts fields such as languages and paintings, while males choose science subjects like maths, chemistry and physics. I think it is due to humans’ brain functions and natural reflection to the outside world. Generally, I strongly believe that this tendency should not be […]

In some schools and universities, girls tend to choose arts subjects (e.g. literature), and boys tend to choose science subjects (e.g. physics). Why do you think this is so? Should this tendency be changed?

In many educational institutions, girls are more likely to study languages and other arts-based subjects, whereas boys tend to favour physics, mathematics and related sciences. Although these preferences are often presented as natural differences between the genders, they are largely shaped by early upbringing, social expectations and the types of activities children are encouraged to […]
