It is widely acknowledged that young individuals tend to spend excessive time in shopping centers and some people advocate that this phenomenon has detrimental effects on the youth and their society. I firmly disagree with this viewpoint as I believe that this prevailing trend has both advantages and disadvantages for both individuals and the society as a whole.
To begin with, there are two primary reasons that are worth mentioning about this issue. First and foremost, going shopping is considered as a recreational activity which helps youngsters to chill out after arduous working day. For instance, there are numerous of play ground namely cinemas, coffee shops, and book stores which allow the youth to entertain and relax. Furthermore, for the society, high demands in shopping of youngsters help accelerate the development of economy. There is no doubt that excessive purchase from the youth will result in the growth in manufactures and production in order to meet their requirements in shopping. This not only helps lower unemployment rate but also stimulate the development of economy as a whole.
On the other hand, there are some pernicious impacts of this phenomenon on both individuals and society. Firstly, in terms of social effects, if youngsters spend too much quality time on shopping, they cannot take part in other public activities namely volunteer, helping the elderly or social duty. This will lead to an irresponsible generation and nurture emotionless and selfish personalities in youngsters. Secondly, shopping excessively is considered as a waste of time and money. Regularly purchasing products with costly price or unaffordable items will result in bankruptcy in young individuals, leading to the increase of crimes like burglars, vandalism, or even murders.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that this prevailing phenomenon has both negative and positive consequences for youngsters as well as the society.
