Many people argue that spending a large amount of leisure time brings about negative influences on the youth and society. Personally, I strongly disagree with this view.
Proponents of the view above may argue that indulging significantly in shopping has detrimental impacts. Firstly, these tend to misspend a great deal of money on unnecessary items. The fact is many purchase some new things just to update trends that are similar to their idols on social media. Such could put young individuals, who largely have precarious incomes, into serious debt. Secondly, over-indulgence in shopping can lead to excessive time wastage. Young people are unlikely to engage in other worthwhile pursuits including studying, reading books, and playing sports. This contributes to low performance at work and study.
Despite the valid argument detailed above, I believe that youngsters spending time in shopping malls includes tangible benefits for themselves and society. Firstly, many find staying in malls a way to unwind. For instance, some art students believe that enjoying their unproductive time there watching aesthetic decoration helps them release stress effectively and even enhance their art inspiration occasionally. Additionally, many shopping centers contain cinemas with game and bowling centers, which are common places for respite for the youth. Secondly, the rise in consumption can promote manufacturing and alleviate unemployment. A growing trend in shopping can also accelerate commerce, which expedites domestic products’ economic increase.
In conclusion, despite devoting a huge amount of time to shopping malls could lead to both negative and positive consequences, I firmly hold the view that this should not be condemned. However, malls seem to decline gradually in popularity in the future since people can purchase online today.
