Band 5+: Overpopulation of urban areas has led to numerous problems. What are the problems? What should governments and individuals do to tackle these problems?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is true that the amount of population in the city is too crowded which leads to numerous issues. Several problems have resulted from this tendency and they should be tackled by a number of solutions from the authorities and individuals.

As the population exceeds, several related problems can be anticipated. The main issue is that it creates a contaminated environment. This could be explained by the fact that an overpopulation of urban areas has thrown more garbage into our environment which has piled up a large amount of waste in land and a stinking atmosphere. For example, Hanoi is the capital of VietNam where it appeals to a large number of people living, working and traveling there, however, they always face polluted air and lack clean water to use for their daily life. As a result, this affects to citizen’s quality of life and easily get some diseases such as malaria, pulmonary tuberculosis and even cancer. Another problem is that there is a lack of accommodation. This is happening because everyone has tended to immigrate into the city to live, which exceeds capacity to provide or build up more accommodation. This is shown by exemplifying that due to overpopulation, the cost of living is increasing, that people with low income cannot buy or rent a house, therefore, it exists people live under bridges in urban areas.

Since such issues are serious, the government and individuals should immediately take steps to address these problems. The first solution would be that the government should invest to construct public housing and improve infrastructure. For example, some country like Russia that they build up to more public housing and assist finance for low income people like unemployee. This ensures that all people have abode and stability. The second measure would be that individuals should decrease the amount of waste. In other words, people should be aware of the seriousness of polluted environments that they must recycle old material for use. This can be shown by the example in Japan where there is a clean environment famous in the world due to having habit reusing and people’s better perception. Hence, when reducing the amount of waste going to landfills, this will avoid the spread of trash into the river and save their money by reusing.

In conclusion, there are various negative consequences of population growth and appropriate steps need to be taken to tackle these problems not only by the governments but also by individuals. In my opinion, the situation will be alleviated soon, if these ideas are properly implemented.
