In modern society, more and more parents are forcing pressure and expectation on their children to succeed from a young age due to various reasons. In my personal opinion, this method of raising a child can cause irreversible physical and mental damage to a child and should not be used under any circumstances.
There are many reasons for why parents forcing their children to succeed from an early age. They may live in an unfortunate environment and hope their childs will eventually succeed in life and fulfill their dreams or pull them out of their current living conditions. We can often see this happening in the slums, where parents put pressure on the childs to get into a prestigious school and get a well-paying job to provide for them. It can also be a cultural reason. In certain Asia countries, the child often get used as a symbol for the status of the parents, with a successful child becoming a bragging right to neighbors and relatives.
However, this method of raising a chld can do more harm than good. The most obvious downside of this is not all children can live and thrive in a stressful environment. Unsuccesful children living in such households often lose their sense of self worth and individualism, all of which can lead to depression and other mental issues later on in their life. It is not uncommon to see these childs living a lonely and miserable life as an adult if they failed their parents dreams and wishes.
Modern parents put their childs in stressful and competitive environments mostly for personal or cultural reasons, but they often fail to see the negaive impact this can leave on their childs such as mental illnesses and a lonely, unhappy life.
