Band 8+: Part 2: Children find it difficult to concentrate on or pay attention to school. What are the reasons? How can we solve this problem?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Focusing on studies is difficult for students. These situations occur due to interfering factors such as gadgets and an outdated school curriculum, but these can be corrected by setting limits and using more interactive teaching methods.

One of the main causes of distraction from studying is the excessive use of phones. The virtual world inside digital devices provide access to various applications that can easily relieve the boring school environment with exciting games or chatting with friends. Furthermore, the outdated school curriculum also reduces student engagement. In recent times, many educational systems are made up of outdated materials that fail to arouse student interest because they are not properly used or practiсed in real life. For example, modern children easily lose concentration because teachers simply conduct lessons that are too monotonous without interaction with classmates

However, there are several ways to solve the problem; implementing strict restrictions represents one of the most effective solutions to counter distractions. If schools collect children’s phones upon entry for the duration of classes, it will help students forget about the virtual world and encourage them to study harder, restoring their concentration to classroom activities. Introducing interactive teaching methods can also help. This is mainly because interactive tasks require students to practically apply information rather than just memorize text, meaning that active participation in problem-solving naturally maintains their attention for much longer periods. For instance, European schools successfully enhanced student concentration by incorporating digital educational quizzes into lessons, transforming complex science subjects into engaging, competitive games.

In conclusion, digital distractions and outdated educational materials disrupt students’ ability to focus in class. However, the issues can be resolved by effective solutions, including the implementation of strict restrictions and the adoption of interactive classroom activities.
