Advertisements on television and social media have surged. I believe that ads have both positive and negative effects on daily lives of the individuals but demerits outweighs merits.
The first drawback is that people tend to buy the products which are not required. To elucidate, they buy products that don’t serve any purpose but under the influence of the brands promoting on websites. Moreover, the youth gets easily persuaded on repeated potrayals on television if their favorite celebrity or influencer has publicize the product. This enables them to perform immediate purchase without thinking if it is useful. Additionally, teens are influenced by unhealthy products having high sugar, fat and salt content being popularized and pester their parents to buy. This leads to obesity and health problems at such a young age. Thus, marketing have adverse consequences on the decisions made by individuals especially youth.
On the other hand, marketing creates awareness about the new products launched in the market. People learn and educate themselves about the use cases of product being advertised. This encourages them to think, innovate and solve problems prevalent in the society. Additionally, companies get the benefit of increasing their revenue by publicizing services to the consumers. To elucidate, people become aware of the brand through the advertisement and they are likely to buy the product if it looks appealing which in turn helps in growth of brand. Hence, advertisements have positive effects on both the customer and branded companies.
To summarize, I would like to reiterate that while advertisements play a vital role in day to day lives of the people but I believe that disadvantages are far more serious and cannot be neglected and ignored.
