People lack awareness of the natural environment, resulting from insufficient education about the ecosystem and prioritizing economic growth over natural sustainability, which requires environmental education and regulations.
To begin with, people’s lack of understanding of the importance of the environment can be attributed to a number of reasons. Firstly, they do not receive careful education about the significance of the natural world from an early age. This could, in turn, lead to a deficiency in environmental knowledge among individuals. As a result, they cannot recognize nature’s role in sustaining life. Another problem associated with environmental sustainability is people often focus excessively on boosting the economy. These actions, for instance, cutting down trees and dumping toxic chemicals into lakes, rivers, and oceans can help people gain income and businesses generate revenue, but they inadvertently damage the natural world, contributing to environmental degradation. In many cases, this has led to deforestation and forest fires, leading to long-term consequences.
Fortunately, there are a number of solutions that can help tackle the lack of understanding about the natural world among people. The first measure would involve the government adding properly-structured environmental education in schools. This action can help people, especially children, raise awareness of environmental sustainability, as they can gain valuable knowledge about nature’s role in life, encouraging people to protect the environment and promoting eco-friendly lifestyles. In addition, the government should implement strict laws to prevent individuals from destroying forests to gain personal profit. This was successfully done by the Vietnamese government in 2008, when they enforced environmental policies that restricted people from cutting down trees to sell and gain income. As the government took this action, it supported environmental sustainability, fostering a greater living standard.
In conclusion, although people lack awareness about the importance of the natural world because of insufficient education and the prioritisation of growing profits over the environment, these can be tackled by well-organised environmental education and state-wide policies enacted by the government. With sufficient education and appropriate implementation, these issues can be expected to be resolved in the foreseeable future.
