Band 6+: Politicians' personal lives should not be written on newspapers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is thought that information regarding politicians should be revealed in public by the media. This essay strongly agrees with that suggestion, since this helps citizens to know how they act in private and to choose better choices in elections.

First and foremost, what makes politiciens’ lives should be disclosed by newspapers is that it could enable citizens to know their private actions, assisting their decisions in choosing the right candidates. Being monitored by the media would make politicians not make unilateral decisions and prevent the misuse of public funds for their own entertainment. For instance, the survey conducted by BBC for a question on how citizens cast their votes at the 2010 India election surprisingly revealed that nearly 90% of citizens had chosen their candidates based on their actions in their private and family time. As a result, this phenomenon compels politicians to consistently adhere to moral principles in their actions.

Furthermore, obtaining this type of information would increase civilians’ faith in their leader. As a matter of fact, most of the people, especially young adults, see the politicians as role models ,and they get inspired and motivated by them. When the authoritative people do every action privately, people tend to lose their trust upon them, making them feel insecure even in their own country. Hence, to win the public trust, politicians should allow the media transparency. By the time the United States of America was undertaken by the president Barack Obama, people even knew his daily schedule and routine, which made them satisfied that their decision to choose a government was not wrong.

In conclusion, since newspapers and other media work as a chain between government and citizens, I totally agree with the statement politicians’ private lives should be revealed by the newspapers because newspapers have a right to make people aware of the right and wrong deeds of the government.

Throughout history, people have imagined an ideal society, yet disagreement remains over what perfection actually means.
