Nowadays, politicians are similar to celebrities. People see them as public figures whose every step that they take and every move that they make is being monitored by the society and are often being covered in media such as newspaper, including their personal matters which is in my opinion is too much.
Politicians, like all individuals, have a right to privacy. They might belong to those people who chose them to convey their aspirations but their privacy lives are only belong to themselves. By exposing much of their exclusive lives in media such as newspaper, it may directly impact their ability to perform their public duties. For example, when a newspaper writes about alleged infidelity of a politician, it will be very distressful for that person to meet people in public. As a result, many public activities might be delayed and some aspirations from the society might not be delivered well.
Furthermore, excessive focus on personal lives can distract the community from important political issues. People are often easily distracted by personal problems, it may be the reason why some high position officer in politic parties are using some well-known persons’ private matters, particularly their opposing parties, to be exposed in news to shift issues regarding political interests. As a consequence, this will be lowering the people’s opinions and reducing public engagement.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that excessive news about politicians’ personal matters will negatively impact their performance as people’s representative in political matters and distracting people from important political issues that should be a top priority.
