Band 5+: Question: More and more people are becoming seriously overweight. Some people say that the price increase of flattening foods will solve this problem. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, it has been becoming increasingly common for people to be fat. In the light of this issue, some people put forward the idea that price food, which cause to be overweight, should increase. Although I acknowledge the demerits of this trend, I strongly believe that this situation can be a change for the better.

On the one hand, increasing price of fattening food can be seen in negative light. First of all, it may be unfair for other people, including low-income people. It is evident that today in modernized world, most poorer people often rely on cheaper high-calorie foods. For example, in India, most low-income people depend on Fast food, due primarily to its cheap cost. They may struggle to make a living when price of junk food increases. As a result, some people likely to die in some under developing countries. Additionally, it has negative impact on food industries. It is proven that nowadays, most restaurants mostly hinge on processed foods. When price of high-calorie food increases, only a few people may eat out. Catering only small number of people, restaurants may fire their workers. Consequently, more and more people may lose their job, struggling to make a living for their families.

On the other hand, I personally reckon that the price increase of fattening foods may solve this problem. First and foremost, it can discourage unhealthy eating habits. It is clear that today, most people rely on fast food at lunch or dinner. They may not know about food additives, which significantly affect their overall well-being. For example, people from African countries highly likely to suffer from unhealthy eating habits, because of accessibility of fast food around streets of countries. This, in turn, leads to the long-term overall well-being. Besides, it may create additional job opportunities. For example, when price of fattening foods increases, significant amount of people may turn to fruits or vegetables in their daily subsistence. It may create extra job in countryside, because most of big yields located there. Agriculture often requires more people to harvest the fruits and vegetables. Thus, more and more people can find a job for make a living.

In conclusion, increase of fattening foods is double-edged sword. On one side, it provides some demerits, like unfair for low-income people and struggling to make a living. However, on the other side, I believe that its merits are far more significant when it comes to encouraging healthier choices and new job opportunities.
