A wide range of debates exists regarding the harm caused by transportation of goods and people, with some arguing that only the government is responsible for solving this problem, whereas others believe that people play a key role. While there are arguments in favor of governmental action, I am inclined to believe that ordinary residents have a greater responsibility in protecting the environment from pollution.
In our rapidly developing world, transportation makes people’s lives more convenient, however, it creates so much harm to environment and the main one is pollution. To begin with, pollution is a large-scale problem, which cannot achieve successful and long-term solution without governmental intervention. The state authorities play a crucial role for the reason that they possess enough authority to enforce strict environmental laws to limit transportation, and moreover, provide funding for cleaning works that can make large-scale changes to address the current issue.
On the other hand, despite the benefits of governmental support, the efforts of citizens also play a crucial role, as they should realize that the current condition of environment depends on their daily choices. Firstly, the introduction of strict regulations is nothing if they are not followed by people. Residents should cooperate with government and stick to the rules to solve the problem of pollution. Secondly, individuals can demonstrate self-regulation by choosing car-free transportation, which would be extremely beneficial for the environment. Therefore, governmental efforts alone cannot solve the problem of pollution, because citizens are those who are responsible for environmental issues in the first place.
In conclusion, although government can introduce several benefits and solutions to tackle this issue, I firmly believe that people play the most important role in this job, because they can limit themselves without any governmental regulations, which would result in long-term consequences.
