It is undeniable that people’s daily choices, such as driving private cars or consuming food that needs to be shipped overseas, are among the main causes of pollution around the world. For this reason, some people argue that governments should take action to tackle this problem, while others think it is individuals who should be responsible for addressing this global issue. However, I personally believe that both parties are equally important and should cooperate to solve this problem.
On the one hand, governments have the authority to control the transport system by building new roads, implementing laws to reduce traffic jams, or introducing eco-friendly alternatives. For this reason, many individuals believe that governments are in a better position to solve this problem. For example, some cities, such as London, have already introduced congestion charges to reduce traffic, which has encouraged people to use public transport and has reduced air pollution to some extent.
On the other hand, individuals play a vital role in reducing pollution. They can avoid using their personal vehicles by replacing them with public transport such as buses and the metro, or by consuming locally available food instead of ordering products that need to be transported from other regions. Therefore, some people claim that individuals should take responsibility to deal with this issue. China is a prime example, where local residents have begun to use electric cars rather than fuel-based ones, which has significantly improved air quality recently.
In my opinion, both governments and individuals should work together to solve this global problem. If governments improve their transport infrastructure by increasing the number of buses, replacing old vehicles with new ones, and making public transport fares more affordable for everyone, people will be more likely to use public transport. As a result, air pollution can be significantly reduced.
In conclusion, although there is an ongoing debate over whether governments or individuals should be responsible for rising levels of pollution, I firmly believe that both sides should work together to address this issue.
